Dexter - I Don’t Care (Klakson)
One of the most fresh sounding new Electro (or ‘Machine Funk’ as Messrs Weatherall and Tenniswood would have you believe) records I have heard recently. The title track is the most bizarre of the four tracks (indeed you have to ask whether it really IS Electro) and would essentially be entirely 4/4 except that every other beat is missing. HUGE funky synth sweeps (in a Jazz style) dominate with bubbly organic squelch present almost everywhere, and all pleasantly laid upon a bed of pure funk (!?). ‘Z.W.A.M.’ on the other hand is entirely 4/4 Electro but still as quirky. It starts with (almost pop melody) funky growling before turning into a 4/4 version of ‘The Model’ by Kraftwerk. ‘That’s the Word’ and ‘No More’ complete the EP and are little more conventional. Both are extremely funky and well composed with the latter taking onboard sharp and piercing synth stabs, and an eerie feel. No words can do this justice and so you will have to go and find it in your local store to have a listen. All tracks here are exceptional, original, and pressed EXTREMELY LOUDLY and the EP is an essential purchase for all quality Electronica purveyors.
