Delinquent Dialect - Artifice      (Templedog)

The first release on this new UK label, Delinquent Dialect (aka label boss Dave Campbell, also involved in sister label Eurk) gets things off to a fine start. From the offset the music is futuristic and original - ‘Quintessence’ works filthy sine waves over a distorted two step, slowly growing through the inclusion of dark vocoders and spasmodic percussion to an all out electro monster that you wouldn’t let your kids within earshot of. Next up, ‘Obstreperous’ is one of the finest bits of club techno I’ve heard in a long time – it may only be a two bar loop, but is the funkiest, darkest and most subtle groove you’re likely to come across at the moment, with evil sub bass and a fantastically disjointed rhythm – killer dancefloor mayhem material! On the reverse, ‘Epicurean’ and ‘Conceited’ don’t quite live up to the standard of the previous two, with a more retro acidic feel – though still solid enough. All in all an excellent start for this imprint – proving that there is still decent Techno out there if you are willing to look a bit harder.
