Dez Williams - Sock Fluff       (Scsi-av)

After a fairly substantial pause, Scsi finally returns with another four tracker of futuristic electro, this time form new Welsh signing Dez Williams (whose only previous release as far as I’m aware was a track on a Native sampler). The EP kicks off in fine style, a low, squelching vocal cutting into a staccato bass line with fairly nasty synths and tough high speed drumming. Bemoaning demonic possession always helps too… It is then taken down into more minimal territory, the two following tracks sweetly filled with dubby synth tones, time stretched percussion and thick analogue bass lines – as well as plenty of twists to keep the interest held. To finish it off, Dez returns to the shadows from whence he came – low grooves, dark pads and eerie noises aplenty for a sci-fi horror workout. A good debut for an artist we’ll no doubt be seeing a lot more of in the future…
