Drexciya - Digital Tsunami       (Tresor)

After a long break from our dehydrated shores, Drexciya surface through the waves once more to bring us 4 tracks of outstanding electronic funk, as only they know how… The title track works an up tempo beat with retro bass grooves, Darth Vader samples and warped whale song (!) mingling with subtle chord tones, in the vein of much of their previous work. Next up, ‘Aquatic Cataclysm’ drops off the pace and turns up the overdrive, a grinding, low bass driver - metallic and vicious, with many understated twists in the backdrop. The filtered and fucked up beats of ‘The Plankton Organisation’ on the reverse make for the finest moment here – an absolutely storming electro monster, the likes of which we have not heard from Drexciya for a long time – featuring sonar sirens cut up over the top of some of the funkiest percussion about... Finally, ‘Birth of New Life’, (reminiscent of their album for Tresor a couple of years back), takes the flow down into a sweeter, jazzier groove, featuring Hammond like organ tones, subtle bass stabs and sweeping synth hits, providing the EPs deepest moment. This is truly Drexciya at their finest, as we’ve always known and loved them. Miss it at your peril…
