Ben Neville - White Belly EP      (Mosaic Special Edition)

The return of the special edition from Mosaic (as if they weren’t already hard enough to find!), and this time a release from fellow British producer Ben Neville, fresh from other minimal House / Techno excursions on labels such as Sutekh’s Context (so you can already start to anticipate the quality…). Each of the three tracks here have that tracky percussion, spacious picture, and deep, funky bass that automatically makes the head nod and the foot tap – and so I would have no doubt that on a nice and fat rig they would get everyone dancing despite their subtle and intricate changes. ‘Not So Easy’ has large surges of bass, delayed vocal snatches and deep, melodic interludes. ‘Shiver’ is in much the same vein as the latter but with much more swing, quirky flutters, and finer sounding pads throughout. ‘Gimli Girl’ finishes things of with slightly leaner percussion and an altogether, deeper and more sinister groove based around a key changing main line. Simple but devastating – track down a copy before it’s too late.
